Don't be scared. I wish I new more about the espresso drinks. I need a decent maker (not those silly consumer machines with 2-4 bars of pressure). In the meantime, the 12 oz press and 12 oz Bialetti will work well, with a 6 cup french press and 6 cup stovetop maker for when people are over.

It's all about the extraction, baby, whether espresso, drip, press, or otherwise.

Maybe you can buy this lowly seminarian your nice espresso machine for Christmas at your discount? Ha!

Yeah... having a mac is handy. I'd like to see the price drop a bit more so that I could replace my wife's ancient dell. Mine was purchased after a very long paint job. Knowing that I could finally get a Mac made it all worth while.

Good thoughts on backing up. Thankfully backing up is simple on any system... you just have to do it. My fieldwork church learned the hard way. Now they have spent a little bit of extra money... but it will help them in the long way. Keep up the blogging!

I never said that it was a great proclamation of Christ, but it was nonetheless. If you are asking "Is Christ crucified proclaimed?" Then the answer would be nope.

The fact that someone would be willing to make a public statement that they are Christian and have faith in Jesus Christ is a proclamation. That is a lot better than some of the public figures who will only "confess" their faith when cornered and others who "confess" their faith while living a sinful and immoral lifestyle.

If I misread your comments, please feel free to correct me.

Forgive me if this question sounds a little rude, it's really not meant to be, but where in those comments is Christ proclaimed?

The short (and easy) answer is that you'll be covered if you get a copy of Parallels Desktop, and run it on your Mac (you'll want to make sure that you get 2GB of RAM). This will let you run all the software you list in a virtual machine. I've been amazed at just how fast stuff like Libronix runs in a VM -- it runs *at least* as fast as it did on my Athlon 2700+ based Windows box, which is good, as the long-promised Mac version is fast approaching enshrinement in the vaporware hall of fame! (I'd love to have my copy of Luther's Works be able run natively on the Mac, but I guess it's not likely, especially as I've switched over to Accordance, which I wish CPH would support, but Rev. McCain has stated that it isn't gonna happen...).

This will give you the luxury of time, during which you'll be able to ease into the transition, as well as being able to investigate the Mac alternatives for the functions that are provided by the apps you list. For example, Open Office/Neo Office is a more than adequate replacement for MS Office (iWork is good, but doesn't have the spreadsheet -- yet - that could change this week...). Mac OSX has the ability to create/write PDF files natively, so it really depends on your requirements as to whether or not you'd want/need full Acrobat.

It's really not as daunting a change as it might seem (and certainly not as much as it once was). I'm coming up on a full year since I switched (back, after a 15 year 'dalliance' with DOS/Windows/OS2/Linux).

Feel free to contact me with any questions, and I'll be glad to help in any way I can.

I can't respond about all your programs, but I'll respond on the ones that I know about.

Luther's Works: Logos/Libronix will be coming out with a mac version hopefully this spring. They have said in some notes on their website that they will have "reasonable" rates for people switching.

Bibleworks: I believe that you could run this under virtualization (ex. Paralell's of VMware)

Book of Concord: I have mine in Libronix/Logos. However, you could run it under virtualization as well.

Dreamweaver: Probably could run under virutalization

Adobe programs: Are you considered a student in any way? The offer amazing student discounts. The intel version should be coming out soon.

Office Professional: Office for the Mac is nice, but slow. They still haven't come out with an intel build. I got my copy free through the Univ of Missouri. I'm considering switching to a free program.

MsgTag (Windows only); Mercury (Windows Only): No idea on either programs

Skype (Windows Only): I've seen this mentioned on mac message boards and blogs so I'm assuming that there is a mac version.
PGP (Is there a Mac version?): No idea
Microsoft Money: Sorry .... you are out of luck unless you run under virtualization.

I've heard running under virtualization is not hard at all. Pastor McCain might be a good guy to ask about this. I don't think they guarantee that every program works under virtualization, but it seems that most do.

I would wait as long as possible if you do choose to switch. Apple is coming out with new items it seems every month. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
