25 things from Facebook…
Rules: Once you’ve been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it’s because I want to know more about you.
(To do this, go to “notes” under tabs on your profile page, paste these instructions in the body of the note, type your 25 random things, tag 25 people (in the right hand corner of the application then click post).
1. I am preparing to go into my third career – HS Math Teacher
2. I spent a year in Seminary and realized how much I hate Greek!
3. I collect maps and have over 2000 of them at last count.
4. I watch lots of movies but can’t remember which ones.
5. I have been known to torture ex-nuns, never current ones though.

7. I’m afraid of heights.
8. I am a huge Cardinals fan.
9. It is impossible for me to get lost, seriously.  I’ve been known to give directions to people in areas I have never been to, and had them be spot on accurate.
10. I used to work in banking and likely can bore you with all letters of the alphabet and then some…
11. I can sing the Hebrew Alphabet to the tune of Yankee Doodle Dandy.
12. If it’s on clearance and the price is right, I’m likely to buy it – even if I have no need for it.
13. I love my coffee and beer the same way – always full and black!
14. I love spring.
15. I watch trashy teen shows like The OC and One Tree Hill.
16. I love LaTeX and how it makes my math so much more awesome – and no, it’s not what you think.
17. I am a packrat, see #12.
18. I firmly believe that if you can read you can cook.  However, I only cook when I don’t have to clean up the dishes.
19. I am always right even when I am wrong.
20. I am not particularly fond of tea, though I drink it (Free Scotland!)
21. If I had an extra couple thousand dollars, I’d buy a good kilt and wear it.
22. While I have a Swedish last name, I am mostly a Sauerkraut!
23. I have taken German, Spanish, Greek, Hebrew, English, C+, and can’t speak any of them.
24. I remember when the World Wide Web was a newfangled invention and everyone used Gopher, Archie, and Veronica.
25. I’m likely the only person you know who broke their elbow playing capture the flag.

Whilst I was in Fort Wayne, Pastor Jonathan Fisk posted a new newsletter about his parish. It is an exciting opportunity for the people of this community which (I guess) is somewhere around 1 hour or so west of New York. (Pastor Fisk can correct me if I am wrong).

If you don’t know about Our Savior Perryville, I encourage you to check this newsletter out. Pastor Fisk is a very well respected young missionary Pastor from the “good” seminary ;) in St. Louis. He is in a congregation that (as he describes) has been on a decline for nearly a decade or so. His job is to support and encourage the people at Our Savior while developing a mission plant nearby. A gigantic task at the least!

Which reminds me of an article from my district’s newspaper (which I still have to this day). It’s been relegated to the deepest archives of the Northern Illinois District webpage, so I quote it here…

Door-to-door evangelism still works

By Laurie O’Connor Stephans, Staff Writer – Originally published in The Northern Light, November 2000

In today’s high-tech, fast-paced world, Madison Avenue has convinced many of us that the slicker approach is always going to be the most convincing. But what works when you’re trying to sell a car isn’t necessarily the best way to try to bring new people into your church.

This past weekend I had the opportunity to travel to one of my churches seminaries, Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana for the first time ever.  It was to visit a few of our former vicars and a member who is going on vicarage.  I mention them now:

  • Pastor Elect Stuart N. Floyd,  Redeemer Lutheran Church in Warsaw, Indiana, vicar 2004-2005
  • Pastor Elect Peter A. Richert,  Our Savior Lutheran Church in Mt. Pocono, Pennslyvania, vicar 2005-2006
  • Vicar Elect Christopher R. Gillespie, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Saginaw, Michigan
  • Vicar Elect William Orr, St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lockport, Illinois 2007-2008

I’m sure I misspelled my title.  My German stinks.

Well, posting is almost non existant – too busy with life.  This past month has encountered:

  • Having my Thumb Drive disappear from the Church while I was eldering (which contained several websites on it)
  • Having some dumb driver run a red light in front of me (I wasn’t hurt, almost stopped, their car was towed after the ambulance left – they are OK too)  $3300 worth of damage and I’m likely going to have to wait for reimbursement for the Deductible and may be stuck paying for the rental car.  She’s turning one in January.  Poor thing.  Then again, God is working to teach me something.  Again.  I have so much to learn.
