Rider's Comments: Located east of Braidwood off Route 113, a black oak savanna, a dunes land, and a sand prairie await you at this 288-acre state-dedicated Illinois Nature Preserve.
A 1-mile packed earth and sand loop trail is bisected by a cutback trail, forming a .5-mile loop. Unusual species such as the prickly pear cactus, yellow-eyed grass, and the state-threatened tubercle orchid grow here.
There are no facilities at Braidwood except for the parking lot and a portable toilet in the summer. The preserve is a bit isolated, but certainly worth visiting.
