Rider's Comments: This is the southern section of the larger "Fox River Trail" system, which extends a total 36 miles from Algonquin to Aurora. The north portion of this trail is tricky to follow through Batavia. On the west side of the river you pass the treatment plant and follow the street. Cross at the light and pick up the trail at the Depot. On the east side (Red Oak Trail) follow the street for one block on each side of Fabyan Parkway. Fox River Trail (East) connects to the north. Virgil Gilman Trail - Bike south on Rt. 31 approximately 2 miles to pick-up this trail west to Bliss Woods Forest Preserve or east through Aurora. Cross the bridge at Fabyan Forest Preserve and bike south along the east side of River to Red Oak Trail. The west side of this river trail is called the Fox River Trail West. The east side is called the Red Oak Trail and is considered part of the Illinois Prairie Path. Midway between Batavia and North Aurora on the Red Oak Trail, the Illinois Prairie Path connects going southwest. We have titled that portion of the I.P.P. the SW Branch. It is located in DuPage County. ~ Ride Report from Great Trails For Detailed Information Contact: Fox Valley Living Sampler Publication, Inc. 707 Kautz Rd.
