Connecting Trails: Fox River Trail, Illinois Prairie Path Directions for parking: From Chicago, travel west on the Eisenhower (I-290) to I-88 (40 cents) Exit I-88 at the Farnsworth exit, north or right (30 cents). Farnsworth becomes Kirk Road. Follow Kirk Road to Pine Street. Turn right at Pine Street, Fermilab's main entrance. Trail Map: Rider's Comments: You can learn about everything from subatomic particles to bison at FermiLab. Commissioned in 1967, FermiLab is on the cutting edge of particle acceleration research. However, don't miss the woods, ponds, and prairie. The top floor (15th) is open for observation, and can provide a spectacular view of the Fox Valley. NOTE: With the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, security at FermiLab has been increased. All visitors should enter using the Kirk Road entrance and be prepared to show drivers license, even if arriving by bicycle.
