Rider's Comments: You can learn about everything from subatomic particles to bison at FermiLab.  Commissioned in 1967, FermiLab is on the cutting edge of particle acceleration research.  However, don't miss the woods, ponds, and prairie.  The top floor (15th) is open for observation, and can provide a spectacular view of the Fox Valley.

NOTE:  With the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, security at FermiLab has been increased.  All visitors should enter using the Kirk Road entrance and be prepared to show drivers license, even if arriving by bicycle.  According to the press releases on the FermiLab website, the site and trails are closed.  You should call first to verify access is allowed at: 630 840 3000.  To read the press release, visit: http://www.fnal.gov/pub/presspass/press_releases/security.html.
Current status information is now located at: http://www.fnal.gov/pub/about/public_affairs/currentstatus.html
