| Trail Distance: 7 MilesTrail Surface: Paved/Concrete & Blacktop Type of Use: Tour Towns: Evanston County: Cook Intensity of Use: Heavy Setting: Urban Lakefront, Northwestern University Connecting Trails: North Branch Trail, Green Bay Trail, Chicago Lakefront Directions for parking: Parking is available at various places along Sheridan Rd., especially at the south end. However, this is a busy area and you may have to search for an open spot. Trail Map: Lakeshore Rider's Comments: Most of the northern portion of this trail is on sidewalks where pedestrian traffic can be heavy. It is one of the most interesting trails in the area, however, and should not be missed. Don't miss the loop that goes around the lake side of Northwestern Campus. You'll even find a marina operated by the University where you can sign up for sailing lessons. There is a nice beach accompanied by a park just south of the campus. The connection from the south to the Chicago Lakefront Bike Trail (4.5 miles) is well marked by "Bike Route" signage and follows low-traffic side streets. The connection from the north to the Green Bay Trail in Wilmette (1.5 miles) is not well-marked and is tricky to accomplish For Detailed Information Contact: City Clerk, Civic Center 2100 Ridge Ave. Evanston, IL 60201 847-328-2100 NIPC 400 W.
